Bombs Away! Game Art

'Bombs Away! The Game of Thrills' was a board game produced by Toy Creations Inc. sometime in the 1940s. My dad played it when he was a kid and he was reminded of it when he spotted the game's tattered box cover at a local garage sale. Oddly enough, we learned that the game board was designed by Thomas D. Pitts of Glen Ridge, NJ, our neighboring town! It was a fun discovery.

(We were able research the game’s history via the patent number listed on the box: 137,482.)

Unfortunately, the game's packaging was ripped, water-stained and yellowed with age. I took a photo of the cover art so that I'd have a visual reference, then, I spent 20-30 hours re-illustrating the artwork. (It took that long because I'm a sucky illustrator.) No regrets. It's a pleasure to see the game's artwork in striking color and knowing that it is forever immortalized as a digital illustration.

The final re-illustration, saved as a web-friendly JPEG. The colors are a best guess at what the original hues were.
